child writingThe Worcester Area Association for the Education of Young Children was incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a not for profit corporation in February 1998. It is a local affiliate group of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, based in Washington, D.C. WAAEYC is registered with the IRS as a 501c 3 non- profit organization. WAAEYC has 284 members and is governed by a 15 member Board of Directors.

Members may include anyone with an interest in the field of early childhood education and high quality programming for young children. Members include Early Childhood Education students, group and family early education and care providers; Head Start and school-aged child care providers. Member dues, workshop fees, and in-kind services support WAAEYC activities. WAAYC also works closely with Mass AEYC, an important source of support and collaboration. These activities include many and varied professional opportunities for early education and care providers.

WAAEYC Activities Include

  • Public Policy advocacy at the local, state and national level
  • Various supports for early educators and students in the field including training opportunities such as our annual conference, and recognition and support for programs going through the accreditation process
  • Literacy events for young children and their families to celebrate the Week of the Young Child each April. A community service project is part of WAAEYC's annaul WOYC activities as well.
  • Active collaborations with Mass AEYC and other influential early education and care organizations
